Activity description

Voluntary Service of Armenia (HUJ) was founded in 1965 and is situated in the center of Yerevan. HUJ is a member of the Coordinating Committee of International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) at UNESCO and the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations. The volunteer will assist in HUJ activities and promotion of volunteering lifestyle, in organization of international voluntary activities, promotion of HUJ volunteering projects. The participant will learn the aspects of a work in a voluntary service organisation's office, how to organize international voluntary workcamps, seminars/trainings, details of a work with long-term volunteers. After finishing the project, HUJ will help the volunteer to find a job in a voluntary service organisation. The volunteer will also have Armenian language classes in a language center twice a week, located not far from the office of HUJ. The volunteer will always find here a friendly atmosphere. Duration of the project is 8-12 months.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteers will be provided with a good accommodation- hotel in the center of Yerevan, for 2 people in each room, with an own bathroom/ toilet. This cozy hotel has a garden and equipped with all the necessary stuff. Its safe and secure. The volunteers will live in the hotel with nearly 12-15 long term HUJ volunteers from different European countries. On every first day of the month the volunteer will receive pocket money and money for food and transportation. Yerevan is known as one of the safest cities in the world.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will be welcomed at the airport by the mentor and accommodated in the hotel. After arrival the volunteer will have an introduction meeting in the office of HUJ. Together the mentor they will discover the city, the mentor will provide the volunteer with all the necessary information and will be near the volunteer during the whole duration of the project. The volunteer will take part in 2 trainings - on-arrival and mid-term, organised by SALTO, and in all the relevant trainings organised by HUJ.

Participant profile

There are no gender, age and other requirements for the selection/recruitment of volunteers. The volunteer should be open-minded, flexible, creative and communicative. The volunteer should be able to communicate in English to allow him/her a better integration in the team. During his/her service, the volunteer will work with people who have a great experience of working with youth from different backgrounds and will become a full member of the team.
