Be part of your day, join the International Youth Day!

Last updated on Wednesday, 17/08/2022

22 years since its first ‘edition’ and here we are again celebrating the Youth day worldwide. On this great occasion, the group of young European journalists has prepared a video with some special messages for all of you!

Celebrated for the first time in 2000, the International Youth Day was designated by the United Nations as a way to promote better awareness of the World Programme of Action for Youth.

The International Youth Day is commemorated every year on 12 August. This year's theme is ‘Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages’, aiming to amplify the message that action is needed across all generations to achieve the SDGs and leave no one behind. The 2022 International Youth Day is also raising awareness on certain barriers to intergenerational solidarity, notably ageism.

What can you do?

Raise awareness about the situation of youth in your country!
The Programme encourages you to organise activities with this purpose. You can use different channels to spread the message, make it relevant but, most of all, have fun doing it.

You can use your social channels like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, or your university newsletters/radio or local newspapers.

The official commemoration

Every year an official virtual commemoration of the day is organised. For this year 2022, DESA will work with the Major Group on Children and Youth (MGCY) to organise a global webinar for its official commemoration. A great opportunity for stakeholders around the world to exchange views on the topic of intergenerational solidarity, intergenerational equity, future generations, and ageism.
