To mark Valletta 2018 – European Capital of Culture, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, in collaboration with Valletta 2018 and Spazju Kreattiv, is pleased to launch ‘Shifting Contexts’.
Shifting Contexts is a youth arts project that will explore the critical role of art to respond to a rapidly changing world and contribute to the ongoing discourse in this regard. It will encourage young artists to appropriate the given theme and literally run away with it, taking it elsewhere into new and unexpected territories. Creativity entails looking at familiar things from a completely novel perspective and Shifting Contexts will encourage and sustain this approach. Participating artists must show how they have responded to the theme by shifting and moving it into an original context to generate new meanings that allow for further interpretations to emerge.
Prospective applicants are being invited to take part in Shifting Contexts by submitting proposals focusing on the theme:
Shifting Contexts will promote a shared vision for the future of young people in accordance with the National Youth Policy – Towards 2020, contribute to driving cultural, social and economic regeneration as envisaged in the mission statement of Valletta 2018 and collectively lead to the building of vital and dynamic communities of the future.
Closing date for submission of proposals is . The relevant includes more details about the submission process and needs to be attached with every proposal. Artists whose proposals have been shortlisted for the Shifting Contexts exhibition will be informed by 28th June 2018.
