Icelandic music experiments - Battle of the bands
What most successful icelandic bands have in common is that they competed in the Icelandic Music Experiments at some point. It is an icelandic version of Battle of the bands. A great opportunity for young talent.
The IME is a music competition between Icelandic new and uprising bands managed by Hitt Húsið, the biggest youth center in Iceland. The IME has been the main venue for young & promising bands in Iceland since 1982. The festival is in the form of four semi-final nights and one grand final-night. Around 40 bands participate every year in great venues around Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, surrounded by professional staff and a friendly atmosphere. Many famous bands have begun their career in IME
The main goal of the IME is to give young and uprising musicians the opportunity to perform on a professional level and even get rewarded with spectacular prices that include recording sessions, music instruments, playing on concerts abroad etc.
Throughout the years, IME has proven to be a milestone for young and upcoming bands and is still a great venue for Iceland ever growing music scene. Bands like Pascal Pinon, Samaris and Of Monsters and Men all had their jumpstart at the IME.
What makes the event come to life is the support from all the great companies that have supported IME through the years; music stores, recording studios, National radio station and Icelandair who has been enabling the winning bands to compete in the Stages Europe network (battle of the bands in Europe)
Every year, 40-50 bands/musicians are offered a chance to perform. Hitt Húsið will select and approve the applications, based on the rules of the IME.
