Dreaming of becoming a Member of the European Parliament for your country? Start now by applying for a paid traineeship for university graduates or a training placement and getting an insight into how the Parliament works.

Traineeships for university graduates

The paid Robert Schuman traineeships (general and journalism option) are open to university graduates only; the aim is to enable you to complement knowledge acquired during your studies and familiarise yourself with the European Parliament.

All applicants for traineeships for university graduates must have obtained, before the deadline for applications, a university degree after a course of study of at least three years’ duration. For the journalism option, you must also show evidence of professional experience or qualification in journalism.  If you meet these conditions, you can complete the online application form; you can only submit one application for one traineeship option.

Paid traineeships last 5 months and start on 1 March and 1 October each year. You can apply:

  • from 15 August to 15 October (midnight) for the March session of the following year
  • from 15 March to 15 May (midnight) for the October session of the same year

Training placements

The European Parliament also offers training placements to young people over 18 years old who:

  • have a secondary-school leaving certificate corresponding to the level required for entry to university, or
  • have completed a higher or technical course to an equivalent level.

Priority is given to young people who are required to complete a training placement as part of their course of study.

Training placements normally last between 1 and 4 months. You can apply:

  • by 1 October (for a placement starting between 1 January and 30 April)
  • by 1 February (for a placement starting between 1 May and 31 August)
  • by 1 June (for a placement starting between 1 September and 31 December)

Please note that applications have to be submitted by using the online application form.
