The Global Greeters

Find out how to experience a city the local way from the Global Greeters, a network of local volunteers that are happy to share their free time to accompany you in your exploration and discovery of the city you are visiting.

Have you ever found yourself visiting a new place and wondered how the locals live and feel about their city? Have you ever asked yourself,  “What would I do today, if I were living here? Where are the cosy coffee shops and are there any music festivals happening these days?”

If you travel regularly, you probably have felt this way.

The Global greeters

There’s good news, a big network of people willing to help you to find the answers to these essential questions exists. Global Greeters show you how to experience a city the local way. Greeters are local volunteers that are happy to share their free time to accompany you in your exploration and discovery of the city you are visiting.

So, how does it work?

This free service initiative has a structure to make you get the most out of your visit. Greeters offer you a warm welcoming tour around the city for approximately 2hours. In most of the cases, it is done by walking or using the buses/metro. The great thing is that the tours are not pre-decided and can be adapted to what you want to see, taste, listen, experience and live. It’s an insider’s walk around the city with the flexibility to meet your own needs and spontaneity.

The maximum number of a group is six people, so that the strolling around the city is easier and the tour can be tailored to everyone’s expectations. This experience feels so authentic and unique because a visit with a Greeter is more like spending the day with a new friend than following a professional guide.

Belgium, Austria, Germany, Italy and many more “DiscoverEU” destinations plan are part of the Greeters network. These passionate inhabitants love their city and wish to help you discover its hidden gems through their own eyes! Will you join them?
