Spanish university cities

The experiences lived during the university days are one of the best experience that young people will never forget. In the case of these experiences would take place in an university town, this unique experience would become into unforgettable.

At the beginning of the academic year, the streets of these cities are filled with thousands students who are going to live the best years of their lives during the time they look for a quality education that prepares them for a successful future employment.


It is a fact that all students can not live in a university town therefore one option is to visit it to know the student life and breathe the entire atmosphere there.


We are going to show you a different journey around Santiago de Compostela, Granada y Salamanca, which is a route around the most representative spanish university cities which will become into unforgettable.


Santiago de Compostela


Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia. In 1985 the Old Town was designated a Uneso World Heritage Site.


Santiago de Compostela is a student city which offers young people differing cultural and leisure options. It is a duty to visit the cathedral, which has historically been place of pilgrimage because is the burial-place of St. James the Great.


The pilgrims visit the St. James´s grave which is in the crypt behind the main altar. They complete his journey upon kissing the statue.


Santiago is the site of the University of Santiago de Compostela. In the old town, a mix of middle-aged residents and younger students enjoy until the early hours of the morning.




This andalusian city is the most popular destination for Erasmus students. Each year, around 80,000 students arrive to the city.


This study environment is breathed around every place of the city. You can find a mix of residents, tourist and students which feel attraction for the educational, cultural and leisure possibilities that this city offers.


The Alhambra, a Moorish citadel and palace, is in Granada. It is the most renowned building of the Andalusian Islamic historical legacy.

Currently you can find an artistic-historical monumental group with your clearly distinguishable zones the Palace, the military zone or Alcazaba, the city or Medina and the villa on Generalife, all of them surrounded by woods, trees, garden, parks and vegetable gardens.

We are going to finish our journey in Salamanca. This city is a popular destination for students and tourist that are attracted by their historically heritage. This monumental environment is used like a backdrop of the university life.


The University of Salamanca is the oldest in Spain. The most photographed element is the facade, one of the greats work of the Plateresque style.


The students are greeted with the old legend of the frog on the skull. It is presented as a challenge, that the students must spot the frog on the skull on the facade of the University, otherwise they will not be able to gradúate as a doctor.


Another singularity in the Salamanca university life is the “University New Year". It usually takes places the second Thursday before Christmas. This celebration is for students who will be unable to celebrate the normal New Year with their friends because of family commitments. The students go through all the usual New Years Eve traditions, including the famous grapes eating.
