Pregnant and don't know where to turn? Confidential, free support is available for you.

You are pregnant and in despair? You don't dare tell your family or your friends? You can't work out whether you want to keep the baby and you can't imagine what your life would be like after the baby has arrived?

A counselling and support network is in place to help you. Here is a selection of nationwide agencies and organizations:

Beratung und Geburt vertraulich (Anonymous Advice and Childbirth)
The confidential support and counselling service of the Federal Ministry for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth offers a telephone hotline and an online counselling and advisory service for pregnant women in distress. The website includes a search facility for regional pregnancy counselling centres.

Schwanger unter 20 (Pregnant under 20)
The Internet portal "Schwanger unter 20" offers access to a wide range of help and support aimed specifically at pregnant girls and young women who don't know who to turn to or how to carry on. Questions concerning graduation and training, housing, family, finances and the law are answered clearly and in plain, easily comprehensible language. Young mothers share their stories to inspire and encourage others.

Informationsportal (Family Planning information portal)
This advisory service of the Federal Centre for Health Education offers information on topics such as pregnancy, wanting a child, contraception, as well as counselling and advice. They address a wide range of issues from worries about your job to relationship problems. You'll also find specific support services for very young mothers as well as details of counselling centres in your area.

Bundesstiftung Mutter und Kind (Federal Foundation "Mother and Child")
The Federal Foundation provides fast and non-bureaucratic help to pregnant women in particularly difficult circumstances. For example, on application they will fund the essentials such as clothing and other items you'll need for your newborn child, someone to continue running the household, provision of furniture as well as the cost of having your baby looked after.

Netzwerke Frühe Hilfen (Early Support networks)
"Frühe Hilfen", the Early Support networks, are local and regional support systems providing coordinated assistance for parents and children such as parenting classes, informational material and, above all, specific counselling and support at a local level.
