Data theft, subscription traps, humiliating photos - the Internet contains a great many nasty surprises. But don't let this put you off! The important thing is to know how to protect yourself. The following tips allow you to surf the Web intelligently and safely.

Surfing, chatting, posting on Facebook, watching YouTube videos, uploading photos on Instagram, logging into Foursquare, using Skype... the Internet has so much to offer! And it is an important part of our life. But, like everything in life, the Internet has certain hazards that we need to be aware of. Luckily, there are ways we can protect ourselves from embarrassing photos being posted, unwanted ring tone subscriptions and data theft.

Protect your privacy
# don't publish personal data (address, telephone number, account details...)
# use a pseudonym
# regularly check your privacy settings on Facebook etc.
# think before you post - less is more!

Keep control of what others write about you
