Driving licence renewal in another EU country – Netherlands

Affected by Brexit?

Renew your driving licence

As an EU national living in the Netherlands, you can renew a driving licence issued in another EU country at the municipality for a fee of € 38,83.

If you live in the Netherlands and are aged 75 or above, you will be required to undergo additional tests when you renew your licence.

Replace a lost driving licence

If you lose your driving licence, contact your local municipality.

To replace a driving licence which has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed, you must provide the following documents to your municipality if you are registered in the Netherlands:

  • a coloured ID photograph,
  • a valid ID,
  • proof from your home country that you have a driving licence.

Apply for a replacement licence as soon as possible. No time limit for doing so exists, however, you are not allowed to drive without having a driving licence in your possession.
