Renew your driving licence
As an EU national living in Germany, if you want to renew a driving licence issued in another EU country, you can do so at the local driving licence authority. The cost will depend on the nature of the individual case and the fees payable to the authority can vary between EUR 35 and EUR 40. There might also be additional fees for medical checks for bus and lorry drivers.

If you live in Germany you will be required to take additional tests when you renew your licence class C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE. These tests don't depend on age, but on the type of driving licence.
Replace a lost driving licence
If you lose your driving licence and need a replacement, contact:
- your country's consulate or embassy, if you are not a German resident
- the local driving licence authority, if you have a German residence
You should apply for a replacement licence without delay.
