Voting

To vote in municipal elections you must:

Non-Belgian EU nationals need to register on the electoral roll to be able vote in municipal elections. Once you have registered on the electoral roll, you can automatically vote in the next municipal election.

Once you have registered on the electoral roll, failing to take part in the vote can lead to fines.

Standing as a candidate

To be eligible to stand as a candidate in municipal elections you must:

Non-Belgian EU nationals can become members of the mayor's executive committee but cannot become mayors.
