Geographical indications – Croatia

The protection of geographical indications for wines, spirits, agricultural products and foodstuffs, lies within the authority of the Ministry of Agriculture, and all other products and services within the authority of the State Intellectual Property Office.

The protection for geographical indications and designations of origin for non-agricultural products has been provided for under the Act on Geographical Indications and Designations of Origin of Products and Services and Regulations on Geographical Indications and Designations of Origin of Products and Services. In addition to the request for the entry of a geographical indication or designation of origin in the register, an application for the registration should contain a specification detailing the specific quality or characteristics linked to the geographical origin.
