Short description  The Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport has asked the Health Council of the Netherlands whether these new gene mutation assays with animals are suitable for use in the routine safety testing of chemical substances. A Health Council committee has assessed the question of whether such assays can be used to fill the above-mentioned gap in the safety testing of substances. The Committee consulted several Dutch and foreign experts from outside the Health Council while preparing its advisory report.

Short description in the original language  De minister van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport heeft de Gezondheidsraad gevraagd of deze nieuwe genmutatietests met dieren geschikt zijn om te gebruiken in het routineveiligheidsonderzoek naar chemische stoffen. Een commissie van de Raad heeft beoordeeld of ze de genoemde lacune in het veiligheidsonderzoek van stoffen kunnen dichten. Voor haar advies heeft zij enkele Nederlandse en buitenlandse deskundigen van buiten de Raad geconsulteerd.

Abstract in the original language (focusing on the key recommendations)  Om te beoordelen of de mutageniteitstests met reportergenen in proefdieren betrouwbare resultaten geven, heeft de commissie de resultaten uit die nieuwe tests vergeleken met de conclusie uit het eerder beschreven klassieke onderzoek op genotoxiciteit. Overeenkomende resultaten geven een indicatie van het vermogen van de nieuwe test om genotoxiciteit of het ontbreken hiervan vast te stellen.
