Context: The Just Transition Fund (JTF) is a key tool to ensure that the transition towards a climate-neutral economy happens in a fair way, leaving no one behind. It will provide EU funding of EUR 17.5 billion to support Europe’s most affected regions, to alleviate the socio-economic impact of the transition. As the youth of these regions will be particularly impacted by the consequences of the transition, the Commission believes that their young people should be actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the JTF.

About the project:  Youth for a Just Transition is a project sponsored by DG REGIO within the European Commission. Its mission is to inspire and encourage Member States to ensure youth participation in the implementation of the Just Transition Plans. Specifically, the project’s final deliverable will take the form of a toolkit for the meaningful participation of young people in these activities. It has already gathered 30 good practices of youth participation from various European countries, which could serve as an inspiration for young people and policy-makers working on the JTF.

In this session: The session will have a participatory workshop format. It will offer an opportunity to discuss and contribute to the main elements of the ‘Toolkit for meaningful youth participation in the Just Transition Fund’. The project team will present the main findings so far, and then invite participants to share their views and shape the main design elements of the toolkit in order to make it as useful as possible from both young people’s and policy makers’ perspectives.

Target audience: This session is dedicated in particular to young people willing to participate in the preparation and implementation of the Just Transition Plans, and those living in the JTF-targeted regions. Moreover, it is dedicated to policy-makers currently involved in JTF programming.
