The Smart Cities Marketplace
Smart Cities Marketplace at 18th European Week of Regions and Cities
As part of the 18th European Week of Regions and Cities, Tatiana Pasquel Garcia (Smart Cities Marketplace Coordinator), Judith Borsboom-van Beurden (Action Cluster Coordinator) and Jorge Rodrigues de Almeida (Matchmaking expert) presented the Smart Cities Marketplace as an initiative supported by the European Commission bringing together cities, industry, SMEs, investors, banks, research and other smart city actors.
Action Clusters – Explore & Shape
Six Smart City Action Clusters are part of the Smart Cities Marketplace, with more than twenty initiatives. The latter are stakeholder-owned “projects”, many of which have established their own networks and concrete implementation roadmaps – in partnership between large industrial players, SMEs, researchers and city officials.
Matchmaking Services – Deal
In order to get Smart City projects to the market, the Smart Cities Marketplace features a process called Matchmaking by which project ideas can be realised with financing via the platform’s own Investor Network. Potential project promoters can submit ideas to the Smart Cities Marketplace and/or join one of the dedicated Matchmaking Events.
Take away message
The Smart Cities Marketplace is a hub for all stakeholders, groups, networks, platforms and initiatives involved in the Smart City field. Its single purpose is to support the massive upscaling of Smart City solutions across Europe and deliver more sustainable cities.
Tatiana Pasquel Garcia: "The Smart Cities Marketplace currently consists of more than 7500 members from all over Europe and beyond. Their common aims are to improve citizens’ quality of life, increase the competitiveness of European cities and industry and reach European energy and climate targets."
Judith Borsboom-van Beurden: "The Action Clusters currently cover six areas: Built Environment and Sustainable Districts; Sustainable Urban Mobility; Integrated Infrastructures and Processes; Integrated Planning, Policy and Regulation; Citizen Focus and Business Models and Finance. We welcome any new members!"
