Session summary

The Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform offers shortcuts to smart solutions for European cities and regions via on-demand expert services and a community of peers. During the 1.5 hour session the participants ‘tested out’ the way in which the Policy Learning Platform works in practice.

The Policy Learning Platform is there to ensure that interregional learning continues and goes beyond the classical project financing. The objective is not only to create synergies among projects financed by the Interreg Europe programme, but to reach out to all other relevant policy makers. We offer opportunities for regional and local public authorities across Europe to share ideas and experience on public policy in practice, therefore improving strategies for their citizens and communities.

#policylearnig in action

The first part of the session featured testimonials and comments from regional actors who have already benefited from the Platform services:

- Jean-Philippe Odeurs from Interreg V-A Euregio Meuse-Rhine programme highlighted how the policy matchmaking session that he attended the day before gave him a lot of valuable ideas on attracting SMEs to cross border cooperation projects. He also mentioned that this was a great opportunity to establish first contacts and that several follow-up activities were already foreseen with the people met on spot.

- In a 3-minutes video the audience discovered peer review and how the Hauts-de-France region benefited form it. Peer reviews are a new service that allow managing authorities of structural funds programmes and public bodies in charge of local or regional development policies to receive hands-on feedback and advice from other European regions (peers) on the implementation of their programmes and policies. Peers from a selected number of regions are invited to the host region, to examine the specific territorial and thematic context, and make recommendations based on their experience and expertise.

Get involved, exchange, benefit

After having heard the success stories, the session continued with lively discussions where the participants shared their own good practices with others. The Policy Learning Platform good practices database already showcases more than 400 tested and expert-validated good practices.
