Session summary
Wine Routes in many European regions promote sustainable slow tourism, distribute tourism flows to rural areas and off-peak seasons and valorise territorial products. Our proposal is to transfer the know-how gained in developing, supporting and regulating Wine Routes to the creation of Olive Oil Routes. Like Wine tourism, Oleotourism can attract visitors to agricultural areas, offering tourists an interesting and informative experience about a product of fundamental importance in Mediterranean culture, and a low environmental-impact economic development initiative to rural populations. We see this as an area in which regions can share or gain experiences, perhaps through an Interreg or other cooperation project.
