Marine litter, transport, overfishing and the rapid urbanisation of coastal areas are irreversibly altering the Mediterranean Sea. These challenges require strong cooperation between regional and European authorities the scientific community in order to strengthen policies and raise public awareness. Protection and sustainable use of the Mediterrean will not be possible without strategically planned research and monitoring, including with strong collaboration between Mediterranean regions, and targeted achievement of results.
