EU and UEFA team up to protect the climate

It takes all our tricks to protect the climate. Whether that’s by reducing energy consumption at home or ditching the car and taking the bike, we all can all play our part in helping tackle climate change.

Climate change is the greatest threat humanity faces. It is a truly global problem, as it does not matter at all where greenhouse gases are emitted, they have the same detrimental impact on our planet.

The European Union and UEFA, the Union of European Football Associations, have teamed up to promote awareness of the climate emergency and inspire more people to take action to protect the environment.

In this joint EU-UEFA ad, football greats Luís Figo from Portugal, Italy’s Gianluigi Buffon and French duo Delphine and Estelle Cascarino turn their skills against climate change. Through an array of football tricks, they showcase how simple changes in our daily lives can make a big difference in protecting the environment. Climate change is not an issue that can be left for the next generation. We must team up to play our part in defeating the environment’s toughest opponent.

Over the next three years, the EU-UEFA clips will be advertised on television, social media and in football stadiums in 57 countries during the men’s and women’s UEFA Champions League matches, the Europa League and UEFA Youth Leagues, culminating shortly before the EURO 2024 football championships in Germany.

The EU is working to bring about a new, green Europe – one that works for both people and planet, thanks to the European Green Deal. Find out more about EU climate action and plans to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.

This joint venture is part of UEFA’s commitment to the European Climate Pact – an EU-wide initiative inviting people, communities and organisations to participate in climate action and build a greener Europe. Find out more about how you can become a Climate Pact Ambassador.

So, we’ve shown you our climate tricks, now it’s time for you to show us yours. Follow both the EU and UEFA on social media and get involved by sharing your football skills and climate tricks together with the hashtag #EveryTrickCounts.
