The Council adopted conclusions on measures to support early stage researchers and raise the attractiveness of scientific careers. It also agreed on a general approach to ban unjustified geo-blocking within the internal market and assessed the progress made on the single market strategy one year after its launch.

The Commission has presented a proposal for a Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area - PRIMA. The first partnership of its kind in the Mediterranean basin aims to develop much-needed novel solutions for sustainable water management and food production.

Today the European Commission adopted the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield. This new framework protects the fundamental rights of anyone in the EU whose personal data is transferred to the United States as well as bringing legal clarity for businesses relying on transatlantic data transfers.

Firms supplying essential services, e.g. for energy, transport, banking and health, or digital ones, such as search engines and cloud services, will have to improve their ability to withstand cyber-attacks under the first EU-wide rules on cybersecurity, approved by MEPs on Wednesday.

The Commission today launches a new public-private partnership on cybersecurity that is expected to trigger €1.8 billion of investment by 2020.
