The EU milk quota regime comes to an end on March 31, 2015. First introduced in 1984 at a time when EU production far outstripped demand, the quota regime was one of the tools introduced for overcoming these structural surpluses.

Meeting in Brussels, ministers reached a political agreement on 2015 fishing opportunities for certain fish stocks in EU and non-EU waters and in the Black Sea. The Council also discussed agricultural issues, such as agricultural expenditure and young farmers.

As of 13 December 2014, new EU food labelling rules, adopted by the European Parliament and the Council in 2011, will ensure that consumers receive clearer, more comprehensive and accurate information on food content, and help them make informed choices about what they eat.
