An initiative of the European Commission since 1980, the European biomass conference and exhibition (EUBCE) is a world-leading event for biomass research, technology development and innovative applications. EUBCE covers topics ranging from biomass production to conversion technologies for heating, electricity, fuels, chemicals and materials, as well as policies, markets and sustainability and industrial applications, providing a platform for interaction and knowledge exchange between researchers, industry and policymakers. In 2019, more than 1700 participants from about 80 countries attended the conference to discuss the latest opportunities and challenges, scientific findings and technology advancement.

The Joint Research Centre supports the conference by providing the scientific programme coordination and steering strategy direction to address the latest challenges, developments and trends for biomass, bioenergy and bioeconomy.
