2015 is the first year in the history of the European thematic years to be dedicated to the EU foreign policy. The opening of EYD2015 will raise the visibility of the thematic year, inform society on EU's and member states' development cooperation results and benefits. Moreover thematically it will inform and raise the profile of the post-2015 process and highlight the opportunities of EYD2015 activities in it and rally support for good governance and effective, inclusive and accountable institutions as a linchpin for achieving a sustainable and inclusive development for all within planetary boundaries.
Together with high level panel discussions, NGO initiatives, high visibility competitions and actions will be launched during the event to activate public involvement and create ‘snowballing’ and ‘butterfly’ effects on development cooperation.
In the end of the event the Kapuscinski lecture will be held by Homi Kharas, a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, the Lead Author and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat supporting the High Level Panel advising the U.N. Secretary General on the global development framework beyond 2015. The theme of the lecture will be ''Transitioning from ‘the Developing World’ to ‘a Developing World’”.
Target audience: High level stakeholder group representatives from the EU member state governments and public sector, European and global institutions, partner countries, civil society and the private sector.
