Over the past 25+ years the international Fairtrade certification system has grown from a handful of products on shelves to a thriving global system. 1.5 million farmers and plantation workers now participate in Fairtrade. Millions of consumers can now select from more than 30,000 Fairtrade products in over 120 countries to help to contribute to change through their daily shopping. As a leader in the wider Fair Trade movement, Fairtrade International and our members have helped to put trade justice on the global agenda as never before.
But even for all the success, many challenges remain. During the past 25 years, the gap between rich and poor has grown. Climate change is already wreaking havoc on the coffee, cocoa and banana harvests of the farmers we work with. And trade is still not fair.
Now it’s time to think ambitiously together. Fairtrade International is asking you to tell us what we should accomplish over the next five years?
For Fairtrade to be a force for change in global trade, to help tackle the most pressing issues facing farmers and workers, we need to make choices. We will need to focus our attention and resources on the areas where we can best make a difference.
For this we need you. Your input can help us develop our new strategy for 2016-2020. Fairtrade International has been on the road for the past months collecting ideas from the many people we work with. Now we want your feedback!
