Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (Chafea)

The Consumers, Health and Food Executive Agency (Chafea) is a successor to the Executive Agency for Health and Consumers (EAHC), set up by the European Commission in 2006 to run

  • the Public Health Programme
  • (from 2008) the Consumers Programme
  • (from 2008) the Better Training for Safer Food initiative.

Chafea started work on 1 January 2014. Its mandate extends until 2024.

It administers:

Chafea carries out duties assigned to it by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety.

It manages relations with some 2800 beneficiaries and contractors working on nearly 400 projects/service contracts in the fields of health, consumer protection and food safety. It has about 50 staff members based in Luxembourg.
