Paul Henning Krogh
I have been involved in soil ecology and ecotoxicology research since 1983, focusing on microarthropods, earthworms, and enchytraeids in agricultural and disturbed natural habitats. I've used soil fauna as bioindicators to assess soil quality for various industry and government investigations. My contributions include shaping new GMO risk assessment guidelines and conducting field studies on soil biodiversity affected by persistent pesticides, in compliance with GLP and the Guidance Document on Terrestrial Ecotoxicology (91/414/EEC).
My research explores ecological processes, such as soil structure formation and nutrient release (ecosystem services), as well as interactions among soil organisms in both mesocosms and natural environments. I coordinated the EU FP5 project ECOGEN from 2002 to 2006, a multidisciplinary effort involving economists, agronomists, ecologists, and computer scientists.
My management roles encompass team leadership, certification as a GLP Study Director for compliant studies, and overseeing national and international projects, including EU initiatives and ring testing. Presently, I'm engaged in assessing soil biodiversity using barcoding and metabarcoding techniques, at the eDNA Center at Aarhus University, as well as studying the impact of soil fauna on ecosystem functioning. Since 2007, I've overseen the microarthropod monitoring for the BioBasis Nuuk program.
Until March 2024, I served as the vice-chair of the www.EUdaphobase.eu COST Action, dedicated to sharing soil invertebrate data for the protection of soil biodiversity and ecosystem services.
