YOUNG FILMMAKERS COMPETITION

The EU is offering young filmmakers the chance to make their very own #EUandME short film.  Five winners will each receive a grant of €7,500, as well as mentoring from a top European director, to help them to bring their idea to life.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

Is there a better way to talk about travelling and how it helps to fight harmful stereotypes than through comedy? I honestly don't know, so I wrote one!

What does the EU mean to you?

Travelling is essential to learn how to respect and understand each other. The EU helps you do that.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

It seemed a great opportunity to inspire others to pursue their dreams with a positive short film.

What does the EU mean to you?

The EU for me stands for education and courtesy. Learning from past mistakes led to creation of the EU, now that’s experience-based wisdom! Continuous courtesy between different countries and their people ensure my hopes for the future.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

I had an idea for a short film, and the #EUandME project seemed like the perfect opportunity to develop it, as the main themes of the story are strongly cemented in the guiding values of the EU.

What does the EU mean to you?

For me, the EU is, first and foremost, a means of bringing people of all backgrounds closer together in this high-speed day and age that we all, willingly or unwillingly, live in.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

I decided to apply to this competition because I am excited about the idea of highlighting the positive qualities of Europe through a video, and because I'm interested in growing within the film industry.

What does the EU mean to you?

For me, the EU means being part of a community that transmits stability and opportunities.

In recent years the EU has been investing in young people, and I would like to show my appreciation for this.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

I could talk about the roads and reasons that led me here, but I only need 5 words: I want to make movies. This competition is a unique opportunity to tell a unique story.

What does the EU mean to you?

Being European means having opportunities and possibilities. Opportunities to move freely, to study and to work. Possibilities to demonstrate that I can tell stories, as a scriptwriter and director.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

Art can raise awareness and inspire people. In my films I want to speak about equality, solidarity and harmonious coexistence among diverse cultures, and this competition can help me pursue my goal.

What does the EU mean to you?

The EU allows me to overcome borders and live in an open, pluralistic society. This privilege corresponds with my duty to enhance this model and stand up for social inclusion, against discrimination.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

I participated in #EUandME because I want to offer my ideas in support of a European storytelling project.

What does the EU mean to you?

The European Union is the future for me. But in my opinion, the EU needs to engage with its citizens to propose new ways of identifying with Europe, beyond national and economic values.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

I saw an opportunity to tell a comedic story about a father and son which could encourage others to take a first step towards their dreams, or to at least have a good laugh together.

What does the EU mean to you?

During my film studies, I met creatives from all over the EU and some remain my friends now. Film is a collaboration, and to me the EU brings people together and gives possibilities and not boundaries.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

Currently, the EU is often depicted in a negative light in the media. By creating a short story, I want to positively contribute to the EU project and invite people to join a constructive dialogue.

What does the EU mean to you?

After the Second World War, Churchill used the term Common Cause to define a project of  ‘United States’ of Europe; for me this idea is still the best way to express what the EU stands for.

Why did you apply for the Young Filmmakers Competition?

In the last few years I have become more and more interested in filmmaking and being a part of a film production, so as I heard about the competition, I had no doubts about participating.

What does the EU mean to you?

Opportunities. To realise my ideas, to work and live in different countries, to be safe on the Internet and to protect the environment.
