Dries Buytaert

Creator of Drupal, Co-founder and CTO of Acquia

Dries Buytaert is the original creator and project lead for Drupal, the open source web platform used by 2% of the world’s websites and has 35,000 active contributors around the world. Buytaert is also the Co-founder, CTO and Chairman of the Board for Acquia, a venture-backed technology company that helps large organizations build and operate their digital experiences. Drupal and Acquia is used by over 185 Public Sector customers around the world, including the entire country of Australia, the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the European Commission.

Dries holds a Licentiate Computer Science from the University of Antwerp, and a PhD in computer science and engineering from Ghent University. He was named CTO of the Year by the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, New England Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young, a Young Innovator by MIT Technology Review and is a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum.

Buytaert was born and raised in Antwerp, but moved to Boston in 2010.
