Günther Oettinger studied law and economics in Tübingen where he also worked as scientific assistant. Prior to his election as President-Minister of Baden-Wüttemberg (2005-2010), he worked as a lawyer in the private sector. In 2010-2014 he was European Commissioner for Energy.
