Every year since 2005, the European Night of Museums offers the public spectacular animations and engaging activities in the evening and at night. In 2017, the event mobilized 1,800 museums with 2 million visitors in France and more than 3,800 museums across 30 European countries.
This year, on the evening of Saturday 19 May, many museums will open their doors free of charge throughout Europe. Visitors will have the chance to take part to theatrical visits, courses, treasure hunts, workshops, demonstrations, tastings and will be able to admire spectacular illuminations and projections.
The theme of this year is the European dimension of art history and museum collections, relating to the enhancement of educational activities of museums in Europe. In France, for example, students will become cultural guides for one night, in the frame of the project "La classe, l’œuvre!".
