Since its first edition in 2003 this conference has brought together the European civil protection community as well as representatives from the neighbourhood and other partner countries. During the last edition in 2015, the forum gathered approximately 800 participants and 70 speakers from the civil protection and disaster risk management community, including government, academia, private sector, civil society and media, who contributed to shaping policy discussions, research and operational initiatives on civil protection and disaster risk management.

The objective of the forum 2018 is threefold:

  • Provide a space for discussing with the main stakeholders of the "Union Civil Protection Mechanism" a few pressing policy questions which are likely to shape future development of the "Union Civil Protection Mechanism";
  • Serve as a sounding board for new ideas and developments in the sphere of civil protection and disaster risk management, including cooperation at EU level and with neighbouring countries beyond 2020;
  • Facilitate networking, mutual learning and cooperation within the European civil protection community.
