EuropeAid Workshop PEFA in Latin America: Seven Years of Implementation
EuropeAid hosted a workshop on PEFA and PFM reform in Latin America on 4 and 5 December 2012 in Brussels. Discussions focused on how PEFA assessments have contributed to improve PFM reform processes and the dynamics of these reforms. This event was a occasion to exchange experiences. Participants included staff from EU Headquarters and from EU Delegations as well as high level representatives from Latin America, the PEFA Secretariat, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and PEFA experts.
For the past seven years, the European Commission, in collaboration with the other six PEFA partners, has been at the forefront of efforts to develop and implement the Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability Framework (PEFA). This tool has been applied in most of the countries benefitting from development assistance, often in close collaboration with the International Financial Institutions present in the Latin American region. The PEFA Secretariat, in its "guardian of the methodology" role has also been deeply involved in all assessments and consultations.
