Outermost regions open an office in Brussels
Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana and Reunion will open a shared office in Brussels this month to improve the monitoring of European issues that concern them and remain in close contact with the EU institutions.
Due to their geographical disadvantages, the outermost regions are able to benefit from special conditions in different fields, such as tariffs, agriculture and fisheries, state aid. In the original draft budget for 2014-2020, the Commission proposed an allocation of EUR 924 million to the remote maritime regions, which has been increased to EUR 1,3 billion by the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy. The final decision will be made in early 2013.
