Working in a group of people with different cultures and mentality is not an easy task. I grew up with the aim of building opportunities of educational equalities among students. Taking advantage of any opportunity I had, I always tried to fight for the right of the young people to gain opportunities.
I chose to follow the degree of mathematics (3rd year) with mainly units philosophy and finance. I shall encounter no obstacle in doing repetitive work with numbers. I am a strategic thinker with a comprehensive understanding of financial systems, and possess high moral standards, which compel me to work to a strict code of ethics.
I gathered quite a lot of knowledge about the financial sector, while I worked as a Trainee in a large insurance company. I worked under the supervision of an Executive Insurance Consultant, where I was introduced to several work aspects of the organisation. Reviewing various insurance policies, and being given an insight into how they came into being, not only fascinated me, but gave me essential knowledge of how the company works.
As a citizen of a divided country, it comes natural to me to discuss politics openly and critically. Being an argumentative individual, I often challenge alternative points of view. But the importance of public debate has mostly been underlined through my participation at a conference in the House of Commons. The experience was unforgettable and strengthened both my confidence and my communication skills.
In addition, due to my experience as a vice president and then as deputy president of the Student Union Anagennisis UK, also I was elected as representative of the student's party in the committee of the National Union of Cypriot Student in the UK (NUCS UK). It seemed natural for me to involve myself in many political conferences and programmes (Belgium, Poland, England, Greece, Cyprus). In fact I took on every opportunity to enhance my theoretical understanding with a practical framework. Working as a columnist for two newspapers (UK, CY) and at the same time being the organizer of the party’s website, it wasn’t an easy task.
Now I participate in NGO as General Secretary of Mediterranean Network of Students (MedNet). For this reason, above all, I feel I can offer myself as suitable as member in capacity4dev.
