Ioannis (John) Vidakis was raised in Piraeus, Greece.He graduated from the Economics of National University of Athens in 1984. Ioannis Vidakis received his MΑ in Economics from Athens University of Economics in 1988. He enlisted in the Navy through a program for Supply Officers Selection and Training after examinations in 1985.
He commenced naval service as a Supply Corps officer following graduation from the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1986. Ioannis Vidakis was commissioned an Ensign in 1986. Upon completing the Supply Officer, Basic Qualification Course, Ensign Vidakis was assigned to HS AETOS (D-01),(ex USS SLATER-D 766), being Supply Officer till September 1988. Following that tour, he was assigned to the Directorate of Economics in Naval Base of Crete, Souda Bay. Ioannis Vidakis was awarded with M. Sc. in Logistics from the University of Piraeus and the National Technical University of Athens in 2004.In March 2009, Captain Vidakis was assigned to the Naval Hospital of Athens as Economic Director. Commodore Vidakis retired in November 2010. One year later, he was awarded with MΑ in Education, from the Hellenic Open University, Patra, Greece.Since September 1992 till June 2008 he had been teaching the introductory course of Political Economy at the Hellenic Naval Academy.His interests focus on research of issues as far as energy, international relationships, defense economics and Middle East geopolitical themes are concerned. He has published related articles in magazines and websites.
