Celebrating Earth Day: Protecting Trees in Haiti

With only 2 percent of its original forest cover remaining, Haiti provides a prime example of the consequences of not protecting forests: soil degradation, erosion, flooding, increased pressure on wildlife, and more. Fortunately, CEPF grantees have stepped up to the challenge.

A few major accomplishments include:

• • 10,000 red mangrove trees (Rhizophora mangle) grown

• 227 hectares reforested with native species and 247 hectares of existing broadleaf forest protected in the Unit 2 Pine Forest Natural National Park
