Combating Wildlife and Forest Crime in the Danube-Carpathian Region (Launch Event)

From

On 22 November, the launch of the 'Combating Wildlife and Forest Crime in the Danube-Carpathian Region' report will be held at the European Parliament from 15.00-17.00 followed by a reception offered by Member of the European Parliament Ms Catherine Bearder.

The Carpathian Convention brings together seven countries to promote and ensure sustainable development, including the protection of it wildlife and forests. Yet, these efforts are being counter-acted by illegal logging, illegal fishing of sturgeon and caviar trade, illegal killing of birds and oaching of large carnivores, even in protected areas.

This publication highlights the fact that Europe's remaining old-growth forests are disappearing at alarming rates, destroying its unique biodiversity. Furthermore, it will strengthen awareness of the risks to biodiversity of this region, and further support the Carpathian Convention.
