Human Rights

The European Union is founded on a strong engagement to promote and protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law worldwide. Human rights and democracy are inextricably connected. Only in a democracy can individuals fully claim and realise their civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights. Only when human rights are respected can democracy flourish.
