EU-Guatemala Green Deal
Transformational Potential:
Development of sustainable economic model that combines economic development with sustainable resource management, environmental and biodiversity protection:
- Promotion of blue, green and circular economies
- Development of sustainable and resilient small-scale agriculture
- Supporting the achievement of NDCs.
- Sustainable forest management (conservation and exploitation) and recovery of lost forest masses.
The Team Europe Proposal activities include:
- Institutional capacity building
- Improving resilience (Agriculture value chains adaptation to climate change; Access to local market and water; Smalls-scale livestock farms promotion)
- Formulation of National Green and Circular economies development strategy
- Make operational the Environmental Fiscal Strategy.
- EU support in Mesoamerica Five Great Forests
- Municipal and industrial waste management plan implementation
- Improve local and regional cooperation on plastic waste
- Complement public investment in water and sanitation
- Environmental and deforestation monitoring – regional and multi country tools and capabilities
- Coordinated monitoring of climate data and decision making
- Urban mobility programme for the Guatemala City metropolitan area
- Peer-to-peer higher education and post-graduates’ exchanges
- Innovation and job creation small-scale projects
- Energy efficiency investments in the private sector
- Strengthening access of small farmers to markets (value chains), sustainable production, marketing and consumption
- Coordinated monitoring of water availability and transboundary cooperation for the Maya Biosphere Reserve protection
- Guatemala and Honduras TA to find a sustainable solution to the increased levels of waste in the Motagua river.
