The flexipumpis a simple (weighs 2.5kg's) manually operated water pump designed for small scale farmers to irrigate their crops. It looks like a bicycle tyre pump, and is easy to maintain and repair. No tools are required to maintain the pump, everything can be taken apart by hand. Farmers can even make their own replacement piston seals (in exactly the same way as a tyre pump), although spares are available for sale. The pump can draw water from 6 meters below itself and pump a further 10 meters in the air or up to 100m along the ground. With continuous pumping, up to 1,600 litres per hour can be moved. Compared to using buckets to draw water from a nearby well or stream, farmers can easily save 80% of their daily time taken to irrigate.
