One of the two workshops that were held in Majuro, Republic of Marshall
Islands in 2015, the event brought together 37 participants from 7 different
departments, an NGO as well as a local university. This workshop build
capacity in data analysis and indicator drafting and defence for inclusion in
the SoE.

Jointly organized with Bioversity International in cooperation with the
African Union Commission and the Secretariats of the CBD and the
International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

Expected Outcomes: Positive impact on national processes for implementation
of the Nagoya Protocol and the ITPGRFA in ways that complement and support
not only the objectives of those two agreements, but also complementary
national objectives related to agrobiodiversity conservation and sustainable
use, climate change adaptation, poverty alleviation, etc. In the period
following the workshop, national teams will continue with plans commenced
during the workshop that involve closer coordination and long term planning,
including project proposal development. Useful information and reflections
will be generated in the form of workshop report, policy briefs, and
information Sheets for national policy makers interested in linking up
national planning and policy development across a number of potential sectors
and fields of interest.

Participants included interdisciplinary teams from Benin, Burkina Faso,
Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya,
Madagascar, Mali, Malawi, Senegal and Uganda.

Access and benefit sharing workshops were held in Nadi and Sydney to support
PICs understanding and potentially becoming members of ABS. It is hoped that
at least four extra Pacific ACP countries will become party to particular
MEAs and benefit from SPREP’s advice on benefits of becoming party.

With the additional support of AUC, presentations on the ACP MEAs project
were made to the Parliamentarians. 

The conference aimed to create a platform for dialogue between the PAP and
its member parliaments, allowing the PAP to:

Create a framework for the ratification and domestication of African Union
(AU) decisions and policies;

Discuss modalities to ensure that the citizens of Africa are made aware,
through their parliaments, of AU policies and decisions;

Disseminate information on its work and the AU.
