Developing the link between agriculture and tourism could be a significant opportunity for small island developing states. Already an expanding sector in several Pacific and Caribbean islands, agritourism can address a range of development challenges – among them low agricultural productivity, high food imports and loss of tourism revenue, poor public health and youth unemployment.

2015 will be a universal event displaying tradition, creativity and
innovation in the business of food. It will bring together many themes that
have already been handled by this event in the past, and set them out anew in
light of new global possibilities whose common core is the idea that everyone
on the planet should have access to food that is healthy, safe and
sufficient. Universal Expositions are six-month events taking place every
five years that develop a theme of global interest.

TheSecond International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) [1] will be held in
Rome from 19 to 21 November 2014, with the participation of Heads of State
and Government, at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United
Nations. The Conference will be jointly organized by the Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in
close collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), the International
Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), the United Nations Children’s Fund
(UNICEF), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO), the World Bank, the World Trade Organization (WTO),
the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) the
International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), the United Nations
Standing Committee on Nutrition (SCN) and the UN Secretary-General’s High
Level Task Force on Global Food Security (HLTF). Conference information is
also available in French [2] and Spanish. [3] The Conference will focus on
how to address major nutrition challenges over the coming decades. It will
result in concise action-oriented outcome document that will identify public
policy priorities at the national and global levels to address
under-nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and over-weight with a view to
achieving the global nutrition targets by 2025. The Conference will be the
first high-level intergovernmental conference on nutrition since the First
International Conference on Nutrition was organized by FAO and WHO in 1992.
The First Conference resulted in a World Declaration and Plan of Action for
Nutrition which called on national leaders to develop National Plans of
Action for Nutrition and establish institutional infrastructure to implement
these plans.
