A dynamic line-up of speakers were to be found on the panel Changing women’s lives in a rural world that was hosted by DEVCO’s C1 at the EU DevDays this year.

How can a simple bucket protect women and girls from sexual violence in the Central African Republic? For women talking to the International Rescue Committee, buckets are an essential part of the “dignity kits” they receive in displacement camps so they can avoid the perilous walk to communal bathrooms after dark.  
One in three women is estimated to have experienced physical or sexual violence during their lifetime – a fact often hidden, and too high to be ignored. We talked to the European Union Delegations in Guatemala and Mexico about their selection for the Spotlight Initiative, and its role in a region deemed the most violent in the world for women.
