With more than half the world’s population under 30, the vast majority in emerging and developing economies, young people have a crucial role to play in seeing through the Sustainable Development Goals. This International Youth Day we highlight initiatives by three young people driving change in climate smart agriculture in Malawi, voter engagement in India and professional development in ACP.

"One of the most effective ways to reduce poverty is to encourage
entrepreneurship." (World Bank Report) SIMAMA RANTA loosely translates into
Strengthening the South African economy through youth entrepreneurship. The
approach of the event is to focus South African secondary school's efforts on
the delivery of in-school entrepreneurship education based upon 11 principles
of good practice, throughout the year. The purpose of the exercise is to
enable learners to become job creators rather than job seekers through
entrepreneurship. Three schools from each of 9 provinces are being selected
as models of good practice together with a national winner. Simama Ranta
started in 2010 and is now in its 8th year.

The United Nations General Assembly has decided to celebrate the first World
Youth Skills Day (WYSD) on 15 July 2015to raise awareness on the importance
of investing in youth skills development. WYSD celebrations coincide with an
important year of setting the agenda for the future: a new climate agreement,
and the adoption of the Sustainable Development goals are just around the
corner. That is why this year’s theme is “*Youth skills for work and life
in the post-2015 agenda*”.

Renovation of a boarding school in Kaolack. The work included fresh paint of the building as well as new fans and lighting for the classrooms and dorms and matraces for the dorms. We also refurbished the computer room with 10 desktop PCs and individual PC furniture.
