Among their various impacts on sustainable development, biodiversity loss and
natural ecosystem degradation also have severe consequences on human health.
Dr Lucette Flandroy, from the Belgian Federal Public Service Health,
Environment and Food Chain Safety, will provide an overview of the state of
knowledge on the inter-linkage between biodiversity and human health.
Dr Christopher Golden, from the Wildlife Conservation Society, will then
describe efforts by the HEAL (Health & Ecosystems: Analysis of Linkages)
consortium to quantify the relationship between ecosystem transformation and
their effects on human health. He will present case studies from his work in
