Despite its positive development over the last decade, Latin America still faces challenges in overcoming social inequality. To tackle these discrepancies the EU launched in 2005 a programme of cooperation with Latin American Countries: EUROsociAL.
In some of the Amazon regions of Peru, it can take up to 10 hours of uncomfortable and expensive travel by boat to reach a hospital. But new technologies are bridging this physical gap and allowing even the most remote forest communities to access a doctor quickly.

The Improving Forest Governance course is a 4-week, UK-based residential
course that covers a variety of forest governance issues. The course is
conducted in English, French and Spanish with simultaneous interpretation
and is taught by experienced tutors from the Centre for International
Development and Training, as well as leading international experts and
practitioners on forest governance, climate change, REDD+ and
multi-stakeholder processes from the UK and abroad. Participants are immersed
in training and benefit from high quality field trips, including visiting a
Chatham House Illegal Logging update meeting in London.

If you have ever been to Honduras, you will know that it is one of the greenest countries in Central America. Forestry has had a long history there and continues to be an important source of energy for the impoverished rural population, as well as maintaining a biologically diverse ecosystem. Over 50 percent of the country is covered in forests, which are also home to indigenous peoples.
