Last year, the media started joining the dots between the crisis in Syria and climate change. But they only got half the story right. They badly misrepresented the role of social movements in Syria; and they painted Syrian migrants as a source of violence and chaos.
The COP21 Paris Agreement adopted by world governments on 12th December 2015 represents a unprecedented breakthrough for action on migration and climate with the formal inclusion of “migrants” in the Preamble of the Agreement.
Now is a historical opportunity, and I take this occasion to urge States and all other relevant actors [...] to include human mobility in the Climate Agreement to be negotiated in Paris. There is still time to do so.
