"One of the most effective ways to reduce poverty is to encourage
entrepreneurship." (World Bank Report) SIMAMA RANTA loosely translates into
Strengthening the South African economy through youth entrepreneurship. The
approach of the event is to focus South African secondary school's efforts on
the delivery of in-school entrepreneurship education based upon 11 principles
of good practice, throughout the year. The purpose of the exercise is to
enable learners to become job creators rather than job seekers through
entrepreneurship. Three schools from each of 9 provinces are being selected
as models of good practice together with a national winner. Simama Ranta
started in 2010 and is now in its 8th year.

The opportunities that social media can offers to  small and media size
businesses in developing countries are enormous. Africa presently has 167m
Internet users (15% penetration), this is already a huge number. However,
with an overall low penetration rate of 11%, the continent needs to take
advantage of this social media platforms especially for those young
businesses wishing to make a global presence and find diverse markets for the
products (Read more here [1]).

Knowledge for Development without Borders (KFDWB) is a non-governmental
organization (NGO) established in 2014 and based in Vienna, Austria. Our
efforts to support sustainable development progress are broad and diverse,
but a core element of all our efforts is to work closely with civil society,
international development agencies, universities, and local communities to
meet urgent local needs as well as to empower local citizens to know,
understand, secure and enforce their roles, responsibilities, and engagements
for the success of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - in order to
create a better world – a world of economic and social justice.

The mission of Knowledge for Development without Borders is to share relevant
knowledge in order to build skills needed to alleviate development issues at
a community level. We motivate people on the ground to express their
individual needs and the needs of their communities, and to get actively
involved in developing solutions. We raise awareness on local development
issues and we identify the best development practices specific to each
community and their locality in an effort to resolve these issues once and
for all.

We have created the Development Aid Support Mechanism, which consists of a
new developed online StayConnecteD4Dev [2] cloud platform in
cooperation with IBM Austria GmbH, and offline Field Development Support
[3]in order to empower our members, our active volunteers and local
communities, help them to establish their own initiatives to engage in
education, health, public awareness campaigns, and government programs.

StayConnecteD4Dev [4]: Community Learning Center that already brings together
over 1000 civil society organizations, individuals and activists from around
the world is a cloud-based solution to promote education, Peace, measurement
of impacts, advocacy skills, capacity building focused on knowledge of the
SDGs, social empowerment and development worldwide.

It seeks to host, manage, share, and disseminate relevant knowledge in the
local and official education languages of the communities using our platform,
and to facilitate Entrepreneurship and SME Management Training, job skills
training, connections and networking between individuals and groups dedicated
to sustainable development. 

It is with this backdrop that we at K4DWB is creating an event with the aim
of educating interested participant to learn about the powerful potential of
using social media for advancing their business.

*22/11/2016*: Practical example using the ‘StayconnecteD4Dev social media
community. Questions and discussion from participants, feedback and
conclusion of event.

After the three modules, trainees should be able after the 3 training modules
to us computer for research (job advertisements, information concerning SDGs,
free online courses, health, legal, Women's rights, climate change, peace,
addresses, institutions, companies etc.). In addition Trainees should be able
to write, send and receive e-mail. After completing the training participants
can join our Community of Practices where they will have access to the
training materials and gain more knowledge on ICT and explore other
development.

The *Privatisation in Education Research Initiative*, [2] the *Global
Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights* [3] and *the Right to
Education Project* [4] are organising a panel discussion titled *Setting
the Rules of the Game: how can regulations of private actors ensure the right
to education in the post-2015 setting?*

WC1H 0AL.

Panellists will speak to the conditions within which the private sector can
partake in the education sector, in particular in light of the new Global
Goal 4 on education for all and the legal right to education. The discussion
will explore what regulations are needed to allow for responsible and
acceptable engagement of private actors in education, at a time when the
emergence of a range of low-fee private schools targeting poor communities,
including large-scale commercial chains, has sparked controversy [6] in a
number of developing countries. [7] These schools have been problematised
on a number of levels including social equality, quality of education, and
teachers’ conditions.

Still, private schools may have a role to play in education systems and the
challenge is therefore for governments to craft adequate regulations to
ensure the private sector plays a positive role, which does not undermine the
efforts to realise the Global Goals and the right to education. The panel
will include representatives from the public and private sectors, teachers
unions and civil society, and a lively debate is expected with clear
recommendations established for the way forward.

Confirmed speakers include John Rendel (Executive Director of Promoting
Equality in African Schools – PEAS [8]),  Sylvain Aubry (Research and
legal advisor, Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights),
and Sylvia Mbataru (Legal office, the CRADLE, Kenya). The session will be
chaired by BBC Education Correspondent Sean Coughlan [9].
