The event will gather representatives of national authorities and NGOs from
the targetted countries, independent experts and the Bern Convention
Secretariat. It will consist in the scientific evaluation of the sufficiency
of the proposed Emerald sites in the two countries for the long-term survival
of all habitats and species (except birds) of concern for the Emerlad Netowrk
in the Arctic and Boreal biogeographical regions  in the Alpine region for
the Urals and the marine for the Baltic and Arctic.

Organized by the European Commission, the European Development Days (EDD) is
Europe’s leading forum on development and international cooperation
showcasing the ways in which the European Union is engaged in eradicating
poverty, promoting sustainability and justice. This year’s agenda includes
over 130 sessions on 12 topics in line with the European Year for Development
motto: /'our world, our dignity, our future'/. 

Each year, EDD attracts over 5 000 participants from all over the world,
representing organisations from the field of development cooperation, human
rights and humanitarian aid. At this year's edition, the United Nations
Environment Programme will lead four lab sessions and will be represented in
two information stands. Moreover, on the second day of the forum, *UN
Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Environment
Programme (UNEP)*/,/ *Achim Steiner *will be intervening at a high-level
panel session led by the European Parliament.

During this event we aim to share lessons learnt among natural resource
management projects in Africa, and encourage further work in this area
through collaboration between institutions in Africa and in Europe. We will
therefore will also welcome the participation of experts, decision makers or
managers both from Africa and the EU.

/Keynotes given by selected experts will provide an update on the ongoing
debate with regard to Natural Resource Management in Africa, these keynotes
will be followed by panel discussions where we will go more in depth, share
findings and insights and plant the seeds for new initiatives and
collaboration to further contribute to putting integrated water resource
management in practice. /
